Existing Scholarships
Please contact your individual school to discuss our scholarship process. Completed applications must be received by Friends of Catholic Education by the date specified on the application form.
*Please note that (OPEN) means that the scholarship is available at all of the Catholic Pre-K to 12 schools in Frederick County, Maryland, including Mother Seton School, St. John Regional Catholic School, St. Thomas More Academy and Saint John's Catholic Prep.
James and Virginia Grove Memorial Scholarship (SJRCS): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) with first consideration given to any 4th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend St. John Regional Catholic School or secondly to any 8th grade Catholic student to attend Saint John's Catholic Prep. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship. Scholarship is weighted as follows: Academics - 40%; Financial Need - 60%
Jesuit Scholarship (SJCP): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) with first consideration given to any 8th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend Saint John's Catholic Prep or secondly to any 4th grade Catholic student to attend St. John Regional Catholic School. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
Sisters of Charity Scholarship (Mother Seton School): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) open to any 4th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend Mother Seton School. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
Sisters of Visitation Scholarship: $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) open to any 4th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend St. John Regional Catholic School, St Thomas More Academy or Mother Seton School. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
School Sisters of Notre Dame Scholarship (SJRCS): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) with first consideration given to any 4th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend St. John Regional Catholic School or secondly to any 8th grade Catholic school student to attend Saint John's Catholic Prep. Recipient should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
Friends of Catholic Education Scholarship (Open): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) open to any 4th or 8th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend any Catholic school in Frederick County. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
Smith Memorial Scholarship (Open): $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) open to any 4th or 8th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend any Catholic school in Frederick County. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
St. Peter Claver Scholarship (SJCP): Amount Varies
A one-year scholarship open to African-American students in all grades at Saint John's Catholic Prep. Preference will be shown to students who demonstrate financial need, good character, a devotion to their faith, and strong academic effort. Essay Required.
St. Peter Claver Scholarship II (Pre-K to 7th Grade): Amount Varies
A one-year scholarship open to African-American students in all grades Pre-K to 7th grade at Mother Seton School, St. John Regional Catholic School and St. Thomas More Academy. Preference will be shown to students who demonstrate financial need, good character, a devotion to their faith, and strong academic effort. One page report on the life of St. Peter Claver required from 5th-7th grade students.
Bernard L. Grove, III Memorial Scholarship: $4,000
A four-year scholarship ($1000 each year) open to any 4th grade Catholic student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend St. John Regional Catholic School, St. Thomas More Academy or Mother Seton School. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain the scholarship.
Friends of Catholic Education/Mount St. Mary's Scholarship
(Mount St. Mary's University): Amount Varies
A scholarship open to a graduate of Saint John's Catholic Prep to attend Mount St. Mary's University.
Nallin Memorial Scholarship (Open): $4,000
This four-year scholarship ($1,000 each year) is open to any 4th or 8th grade student belonging to a Frederick County parish to attend any Catholic school in Frederick County. Recipients should maintain at least a B average during each of the four years to retain their scholarship.
Ralph and Medora Wachter Scholarship: $500
This is a one-year scholarship is available on an alternating basis between a 7th grade student at St. John Regional Catholic School (for the 8th grade year) and an 8th grade student to attend St John's Catholic Prep. The criterion is based on: 1/3 academics; 1/3 financial need; and 1/3 character. The recipient must have at least a B average.
Knights of Columbus/Father McGivney Scholarship: $500 - $1500
This is a one-year scholarship program open to students attending any Catholic school in Frederick County. The recipient must meet the following criteria:
- Must be Catholic
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated financial need (not a disqualifying factor)

- General adherence to the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism (guiding principles of the knights of columbus) in so far as a young person is able

Knights of Columbus/Col. Thomas F. George Memorial Scholarship: $500
This is a one-year scholarship open to a current 9th grade student at Saint John's Catholic Prep. The recipient must meet the following criteria:
- Must be Catholic
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated financial need (not a disqualifying factor)

Seton Dubois Scholarship (Open): $1,000
This is a one-year scholarship open to a student in all grades attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Pline Memorial Scholarship (Open): $1,000
This is a one-year scholarship open to a Catholic student of any grade attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Linwood and Helen Offutt Memorial Scholarship (Open): $1,500
This is a one-year scholarship open to a Catholic student of any grade attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Col. Mark Hoke Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
This is a one-year scholarship open to current students in 3rd through 7th grade to attend St. John Regional Catholic School. A preference is given to children of past or current military personnel.
Al and Lois Edwards Memorial Scholarship (Open): $1,000
This is a one-year scholarship open to students in all grades attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
William and Joseph Milani Memorial Scholarship (Open): $2000
This is a four-year scholarship ($2000 each year) open to students in all grades attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Bernadette Emerson Scholarship (Open): $1000
This is a one-year scholarship open to a student in all grades attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Brendan Crow Memorial Scholarship (SJRCS): $1000
This is a one-year scholarship open to any student at St. John Regional Catholic School
St. Joseph Scholarship (Open) : Amount and term varies
This is a scholarship open to any Catholic student in all grades at any Frederick County Catholic school.
Anne Gallagher Memorial Scholarship (Open): $1000
This is a one-year scholarship open to any Catholic student in all grades at any Frederick County Catholic school.
Six Sons Scholarship: $1000
This is a one-year scholarship open to one student from Mother Seton School and one student from St. Thomas More Academy.
Carol Hinds Memorial Scholarship (Open): $1000
This is a one-year scholarship open to students in all grades attending any Frederick County Catholic school.
Knights of Columbus/St. Katharine Drexel Scholarship (Open):
Two $500 Elementary/Middle OR One $1000 High School
This is a one-year scholarship open to a parishioner of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church attending any Frederick County Catholic school. The recipient must meet the following criteria:
- Must be Catholic
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated Financial Need (Not a Disqualifying Factor)
